Predator Head Features

Intake and Valvetrain

Finally, a Canted Valve cylinder head for Big Block Mopars is here! The New Predator Performance Products "Predator" performance cylinder head. This head brings the level of performance up for BB Mopars to compete with & defeat our nemesis known as the "GM products". With ports big enough to swim in but small enough for high speed transport. The Predator was specifically designed and built just for Mopar big blocks, fitting to the standard bolt pattern & bore spacing. We even made sure the stock location alternator/accessory attaching holes are there. The casting is complete with generous water jackets circling around the exhaust ports and spark plugs! Raw Casting and cut-away of Water Jackets

Predator Performance Products has spent many, many hours (and dollars) in designing and developing this head. Once we proved out the basic design the next step was producing a working prototype out of billet and doing a complete dimensional check. We then searched out an aluminum casting company that had experience with cylinder heads. Buddy Bar Castings was the one we chose after a long search and many exhaustive discussions. John Fell of Buddy Bar in California was very knowledgeable and instrumental in seeing this head produced as a quality casting. Material is a "specially" modified 356-T6 Aluminum with the core/sand using a special process to keep porosity low and make the "as cast ports" usable. The beauty of this head is how it flows at or around 485 CFM with the combustion chambers finished and good performance valve job with ports polished using a sand roll or other process to remove any slight cast slag. The intake port shape is a modified rectangle with large radii that produce a maximum flow into the combustion chamber. The exhaust ports are a tall "D" shape that also allow smooth release of the exhaust gases. The combustion chamber is designed to allow high compression ratios but with flat top pistons for better flame travel.

Intake Ports

The intake port holds a large 380 cc of volume keeping the velocity up @ 28" of vacuum. The intake valve is a robust 2.400" diameter and on our testing of many head sets, at .750" lift the flow was around 485 CFM with a good performance valve job, combustion chambers cc'd & finished and then a slight sand roll clean-up and matching in the ports. This was tested using a true 4.500" bore flow fixture. (Not the larger sizes that some manufacturers don't disclose that they tested with.)

Exhaust Ports

The exhaust port was designed with a modified tall "D" shape with smooth large radii to greatly improve the flow of exhaust gases, utilizing a 1.85" valve. Flow numbers reached 330 CFM with no porting & testing pipe increased this number to over 360 CFM using the same 4.50" bore fixture. We offer for the exhaust a one piece flange design that will easily allow headers to be built & adapted to.

Combustion Chamber

The combustion chamber is of a shape and design that allows compression ratios as high as 16:1 with flat top pistons. The final deck thickness with the smallest cc chamber will still leave .50" of thickness, plenty for the racers using blowers or nitrous. The deck also incorporated "form chills" a process used to make that surface harder and tougher with less flex & distortion. The chamber volumes are capable of making 52 to 72cc's, based on your application. The chambers are roughed-in at or around 68cc's and must be completed by the end user or engine builder to hit the required cc volume. The spark is aimed at the exhaust with a hint toward the intake for good ignition.

Valvetrain

Now the good stuff! The valve angles are as follows and really unshroud as they open to the cylinders. The intake is on a 10 degree valve angle. The exhaust is on a five degree valve angle. We found the more we stood the valves up the better they flowed. Imagine that! The stands are a solid one piece design with the angles machined into the stand. The rockers are built by T&D exclusively for Predator Performance Products and in ratios of 1.75, 1.80 and 1.90. Oiling is done through the pushrod to the rockers shafts and roller tips. (Spring oiling & spray bars in valve covers available on request)

Compare our prices! You receive a fully ported — as cast head — with greater flow than most any current FULLY PORTED heads on the market today and at less cost! Plus, as you desire more power, these Heads require very little to produce even greater numbers, where other heads would leave you maxxed-out having to purchase another set and start over!

Complete Valve train available upon request, (T&D rockers are used with many ratios available) Titanium or Stainless valves available per order, also pistons, cams, and many other items available — call for further pricing.

Each set of Heads will be produced per order. A 50% deposit required at time of order and full balance must be received before product and items are shipped. We accept cashiers checks, money orders, wire transfers and personal or business checks. (No product will be shipped until final payment is received in full and cleared by our bank.)
